Virginia Wing sign to Critical Heights!
“The reiteration of every profound feeling. A gentle push into an internal world. The evocation of a lifetime of memories rather than a knowing nod toward a diminutive era. “
Formed in early 2012, Virginia Wing’s initial desire was to play and record as quickly as possible but they soon realised a more considered approach was necessary if the band was to be at all fulfilling. Combining the talents of Alice Merida Richards, Samuel Pillay, Emma Wigham and Sebastian Truskolaski, Virginia Wing recorded their debut 7” “Red Sails” with their friend Misha Hering at Holy Mountain Studios.
With a knack of making their songs sound like essential forgotten classics, Virginia Wing create thrillingly crafted pop tunes that exist within that time honoured dialogue between the popular and the avant-garde. Their sound veers from the minimalist post punk of Young Marble Giants, to the twisted 60s psych bliss of Arthur Lee and Love and the Radiophonic Workshop inspired cinematic krautpop of Broadcast. “Red Sails” is due to be released via Critical Heights on 6 May.

In just two short years Critical Heights have built up an enviably diverse roster of the most innovative and creative artists from all over the world including Keel Her, Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, DIVA, Dead Rat Orchestra, Savaging Spires, Greg Boring and Scraps. With an exciting vision for future as well as a new regular show on NTS Radio, Critical Heights are throwing a party to celebrate their first two years and to welcome two fantastic new London-based bands to the roster, the atmospheric Honeyslide and the enchanting Virginia Wing, plus other special guests!
HONEYSLIDE
Based in London, the band features the core trio of Josh (guitar), Mo (guitar/vocals) and Meytal (bass/vocals) who combine warm distorted guitars, complex hooks and captivating melodies swathed in reverb to create piercing sonic landscapes. Draped in luscious boy/girl vocals, their sound wavers between an ethereal echo and a discordant slacker-inspired drone.
With a sound remeniscent of Galaxy 500, The Jesus and Mary Chain and This Mortal Coil, Honeyslide are a young band brimming with potential, taking the influence from guitar‐heavy bands of the past to create a fresh new sound for the future. Their debut 10” single is due out on Critical Heights in May.

Following the release of the stunning album Moon Moods on Critical Heights last year, LA’s electro-pop enchantress DIVA hits the road with her unique live show. Her gigs are a spectacular blend of music and performance art, with fabulous costume changes and mesmerising visuals.
Having honed her pop dynamic to a gloriously melodic precision, Diva plucks inspiration from a myriad of different styles and genres of music including doo-wop, R&B, hip hop, exotica, disco, psych and new age. The results are dizzyingly captivating.
Moon Moods is thematically as varied as its musical inspirations, combining songs about heartache with tunes containing references to mysticism, magic and the occult. A few of the tracks follow Diva’s spiritual journey: coming to terms with uniting her life on earth with the otherworldly and supernatural, but with “Smooth Ride” she realises that we are all on our way to harmonising the seemingly disparate into one paradise.
Having grown up in Los Angeles, Diva Dompé is a fixture of its varied music scene. She currently is also involved in the goddess performance art group Babes, as well as collaborating and performing here and there with other friends and musicians. She has shared tours with Ariel Pink, Os Mutantes, Sun Araw, M Geddes Gengras, Matthewdavid, and Mi Ami. Before deciding to focus mainly on her solo work Diva was a member of Pocahaunted, L.A. Ladies Choir, and blackblack.
“Dompe turns familiar ingredients into spellbinding new flavours.” Uncut 4*s
“a looping, psychedelic, big warm cauldron of molten nectar noise? Diva?s trippy grooves evoke a lighter, less masculine Sun Araw.” Drowned in Sound 8/10
